  • L3 (Data Scientist II): Entry-level position; 0-1 year of experience
  • L4 (Data Scientist III): 2-5 years of experience
  • L5 (Senior Data Scientist): Over 5 years of experience
  • L6 (Staff Data Scientist): 5-8 years of experience
  • L7 (Senior Staff Data Scientist): Over 8 years of experience
  • L8-L11: Executive roles; only employees with considerable experience within Google are eligible for these positions

A Google data scientist’s salary can be broken down into three parts — base salary, bonus, and stock bonus. While the base salary is a fixed component, the bonus and stock bonus are rewarded based on your performance. These are determined during quarterly reviews.
